Joanne
Kennedy has lived in Peru, New York for the past 26 years after growing
up on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Joanne feels twice blessed
having left an area of magnificent landscapes of ocean and mountains to
settle in a scenery treasure trove such as the Adirondack area
overflowing with communities of down to earth folk. Joanne greatly
appreciates the support of wonderful family and friends in her pursuit
of capturing special places and moments to be frozen in time.
Joanne works as a freelance photographer for the Press Republican
newspaper and has had photos and /or articles published in Canoe &
Kayak, Sailing World and Adirondack
Life. Joanne uses several 35mm
cameras, with the Nikon N70 being her favorite for slide and black and
white work. She uses an Olympus C5050 for her digital work.
She has her own black and white darkroom where the hours simply slip by
as images appear as if by magic.
For photography on the water, Joanne uses a kayak paddle while in her
Grasse River Boatworks
solo canoe, an Adirondac Rambler. The
carbon fiber canoe, named 'Skylight' ( after one of the Adirondack
high peaks) weighs less than 20 pounds and can easily be carried by
Joanne in one hand while portaging from pond to pond. One of the
many great features of the Rambler is its stability while using
photography equipment. The Grasse
River canoe is available at Mac's Canoe
Livery, Lake Clear, NY. When portaging is not necessary,
Joanne enjoys using her 'Naturalist' kayak made by Walden Paddlers.
Joanne is a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club and the Adirondack
46ers and has a great love and respect for nature. Reaching a
summit to be rewarded by breathtaking panoramic views, which you can
immortalize in print, life doesn't get any better than this. When
not taking photographs, Joanne spends time creating heirloom quilts with
her friends at the Champlain Valley Quilters' Guild and the Peru Calico
Quilters.
Joanne's work can be viewed at The Lily Pond, Plattsburgh, NY and
the Adirondack Craft Center in Lake Placid, NY. |
